    Question

I'm looking at doing the home telecine thing, and was looking at the Goko TC-301. It only runs at 20fps tho. If i'm shooting wild sound with a minidisc, I'm going to have to slow the audio down to transfer. Not good. Anyone ever used/seen/come in contact with this beast? It's kinda expensive, but the ones on ebay are reasonable. Or, should I just get a TC-20 or a good varible speed proj.?

If the sound is wild--why would you have to slow the sound down????

Wild sound is just that wild.

If I shot 1 minute at 24 fps, while recording dialog, then telecined at 20 fps. When syncing up the audio in post on the pc, I would have to slow the audio down as well. I'm losing 4 fps in speed. 4fps x 60sec = 240 frames. Maybe you wouldn't be able to tell a difference, but who knows?

Hmmm....Ok look at this scenario then.

I have a super-duper crystal controlled Canon, Nizo...whatever. I'm recording sound with a minidisc, DAT, Nagra...whatever. Now, when I try and synch up sound to my picture after the telecine, the sound WILL have to be slowed down. Anyhow, this is not where I wanted this thread to go. I'm looking for anyone who has anything to say good or bad about the TC-301. I might be able to get a good deal one one, and I'm wondering if it's the way to go.

Man, the sound is wild to begin with--Thus there is nothing to "lose" sync with.

None of these machines will do what I think you want. You will need a RANK to get a film to tape Xfer that will hold synch.

However, your sound wild sound will not need to be slowed down--because it is wild. The image will look the same as though it was shown at 18 or 24 fps--thus your audio will not need to be altered.

These machines aren't worth a heap of beans. In my opinion. Save your money and get good Xfers. Good Luck
